- What is considered 'heavy drinking'? According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, drinking more than the amounts shown below would be considered heavy drinking: �' For healthy men under age 65, consuming no more than four drinks a day nor more than fourteen drinks a week. �' For healthy women under age 65 or healthy men over age 65, consuming no more than three drinks a day nor more than twelve drinks a week.
- Alcohol binge drinking is a risk factor for sexual assault, especially among young women in college settings. Approximately 1 in 20 college women are sexually assaulted each year.
- According to a 2002 survey, one third of all twelfth graders had been drunk in the past 30 days.
- A study that was conducted by the Harvard School of Public health during 2002 reported that college aged women who drink alcohol are 50% more likely to have unplanned sex or to be the victim of a sexual assault.
