- In the past three years, San Diego has experienced a steady increase in children between 12 and 17 checking into the ER with injuries from binge drinking: 139 percent rise, from 183 visits to 438.
- In 2007, an estimated 12 percent of persons aged 12 or older drove under the influence of alcohol at least once in the past year; this percentage has dropped slightly since 2002, when it was 12.8 percent.
- According to alcohol abuse and alcoholism statistics and facts, alcohol abuse is a pattern of drinking that results in situations that can result in the failure to attend to important responsibilities at school, work, or at home; ongoing alcohol-related relationship problems; the experience of recurring alcohol-related legal problems; and/or physical injury.
- According to a recent sleep study at the University of Harvard, alcohol consumption within several hours of bedtime appeared to disrupt sleep and cause a person to awaken several hours into the sleep process and have problems returning to sleep without difficulty; this sleep disruption can lead to daytime fatigue and drowsiness.
